Jack & Jane Binder
Valley Vette Members,
You may recall that on Sunday, April 18th, a number of us cruised past Jack Binder’s home wishing him a happy 78th birthday.
I received the following message from Jane Binder:
Jack passed away on Sunday June 21.
I’m so grateful we were able to shine a light for Jack on his birthday. I’m sure I speak for the members in offering Jane and family our sincere condolences on their loss.
June14 Flag Day Cruise to Senior Facilities
The weather cooperated wonderfully for the Valley Vette Corvette
Club Flag Day Senior cruise. Sunny skies and moderately cool
temperatures met the caravan of corvettes that reached 21 cars at
the max. We cruised from the southeast side of Appleton to the
northwest corner in visiting six senior care facilities. The residents of
each location greeted us with joy and enthusiasm amid engines
revving, waving, horn honking, and beautiful smiles on both sides!
Everyone involved had a good time spreading joy to the residents and
caregivers of the senior care facilities.
As we traveled about the valley area we were also able to create our own unique version of a corvette Flag Day parade. It is unfortunate that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused so much disruption in the lives of so many. This was our small way to look toward a bit of normalcy in our corner of the world. Our little Flag Day parade was met by smiles and many thumbs up by passersby as we progressed through the streets.
At one point we were approached by Green Bay TV WFRV Channel 5 and WLUK Channel 11 for a quick interview and filming of our parade/cruise. Rhonda Foxx of WFRV asked what prompted our Flag Day parade. I answered, we had been in the Appleton Flag Day parade since the club started in 1984 and in its’ absence, this year we wanted to continue the tradition. I also said we wanted to visit some of the senior centers in the valley to spread some cheer to them and to us. They filmed the cars driving around the Ridgeview Highlands complex. It remains to be seen what, if any, of the filming will make it past the cutting room floor or when it might be aired.
I want to THANK all of the participants in the Valley Vette Corvette Club Flag Day Senior cruise for helping to spread cheer to the residents and caregivers of the senior centers. It also is important for us to support and recognize the sacrifices made by our military personnel over the years to keep us free. I think we did both today!
I believe we had a great, although a bit delayed, start to our corvette summer cruise season.
